You’re gonna need a better metaphor.
Mike Huckabee attempted to use a pop culture reference to compliment Donald Trump, but he couldn’t even get the joke right.
The former Arkansas governor appeared on “Megyn Kelly Live” to defend the Republican presidential candidate against critics of his lewd “grab them by the p—y” video.
Mike Huckabee’s "Jaws" metaphor fell apart after he forgot that Captain Quint was eaten alive.
"It’s not a big surprise that he is crude and he is vulgar. We all knew that. We knew he wasn’t a Sunday school teacher. Nobody’s endorsing what he said. My gosh, not even his own family is endorsing it,” Huckabee said.
"He’s like Captain Quint in the original movie ‘Jaws.’ He’s vulgar, he’s salty, he might even get drunk…He’s the guy who’s gonna save your butt and save your family. And so at the end of the day, when he kills the shark, you’re happy about it.
The former Arkansas governor was attempting to defend Donald Trump’s crude comments from the newly released 2005 video with Billy Bush.
“Hillary is the shark. She’s going to eat your boat, she’s going to have open borders, immigration out the kazoo. So the choice is: Do you vote for Captain Quint, who’s going to save your family, or do you vote for the shark?”
The problem, unfortunately, is that Captain Quint, played by Robert Shaw, neither saved the day nor killed the shark.
Instead, he was eaten alive as his ship sank — probably not the metaphor Huckabee was going for.
After Kelly pointed out that Quint wasn’t exactly the hero of the story, Huckabee tried to backtrack slightly.
“Any analogy can fall apart,” he said as Kelly start singing “Farewell and Adieu, You Fair Spanish Ladies,” Quint’s favorite song.
Even Richard Dreyfuss, who starred in “Jaws” as Hooper, got in on the fun after Huckabee’s flub.
“Quint did not kill Jaws,” he tweeted.
